This past November 3rd, I had the opportunity to ride the Sky Wheel in Myrtle Beach!! The day before, my husband Joe and I were having dinner with friends Bill and his lovely wife Nancy, during dinner we were discussing riding the Sky Wheel. I am afraid of heights and did not want to ride!! Upon further thought I decided, why not? Just do it! Nancy, who also afraid of heights was also not going to ride. But I challenged her…”I will, if you will”.
The next day Bill, Joe, Nancy and I along with new friends Ray and his wonderful wife Jen met up at the Sky Wheel. We were able to park right next to the Sky Wheel in a great secure area so we felt safe about leaving our car. We walked up to the Sky Wheel it did not look so bad. We waited a short while allowing other to exit the ride and then it was our turn to board. We all noticed that the gondola we were boarding was lucky number 13. This has always been my lucky number. Upon entering the Sky Wheel the staff took our pictures and made us comfortable. Nancy and I were fine but nervous Bill, Ray, Joe and Jen were so excited and ready to go. I was doing fine until we got to the top and the Sky Wheel stopped to let other riders on. It felt like an hour while we were waiting at the top.
Nancy and I were holding on for dear life! The gondola is climate controlled, Joe and Bill turned the air conditioner vents in my direction and blew cool air in my face.
Finally, we started to go around again.
I was able to open up my eyes and see the wonderful view!! The beach was so beautiful and the water was blue and calm. Still nervous as we again neared the top, I made myself look and was able to see the coast line all the way to Little River. As we headed back down again the staff were all smiling and waving as we passed by.
I ended up having such a great time. Before we left the Sky Wheel area we met Doris, The Assistant Manager of the Sky Wheel, she was so nice and friendly and answered a few questions. And yes there have been a few weddings on the Sky Wheel. After Doris was so kind to take pictures, the six of us went to the Land Shark Bar and Grill that is located adjacent to the Sky Wheel, there we enjoyed beverages and appetizers. The staff there was so friendly and the service and food was wonderful.
As a Myrtle Beach local, I often forget just how lucky I am to have so many wonderful things to do in Myrtle Beach. One of those things is having the Myrtle Beach Sky Wheel.
